Wolf Creek gets late-season snow in time for Spring Break

Posted

WOLF CREEK – Several spring snowstorms battered the San Juans over the past week, bringing a much-needed 30 inches to the slopes of Wolf Creek Ski Area.

Wolf Creek kicked off its 85th anniversary season as the first ski resort to open in the state but due to abnormal weather patterns quickly fell behind in the snow department. Though snow was in short supply, the resort celebrated their anniversary in style bringing several events and celebrations to their slopes and ended up having a great season.

Eighty-five years of Colorado skiing has brought with it an exceptional amount of change for both the resort and the surrounding forests. Beginning as a simple tow rope ran by an old Chevy motor in 1938-1939 the resort has come a long way. The resort has survived wildfires, dangerous snow depths and major construction as it grew to the successful resort it is today.

Skiers and snowboarders who have followed the 85 Fun Facts on Wolf Creek’s social media

accounts will have an advantage for March’s commemorative occasion, which will be a Trivia Hour on Sunday, March 30, from 3 to 4 p.m. Trivia-goers will meet near the Pathfinder Bar to team up with fellow attendees to test their knowledge collected throughout the ski season. Trivia participants will have the opportunity to sip on a signature cocktail during the competition.

Anniversary happenings will conclude in April with a Costume Contest. Guests of Wolf Creek Ski Area will be tasked with dressing up in their best retro-ski inspired outfit on Sunday, April 6. Location and times of the event will be announced closer to the Costume Contest.

April 6 will also be the day participants enter the grand prize drawing after competing all season in the celebratory events. Prizes include lift tickets for the 2025-26 ski season, 25% off coupons in Treasure Sports, t-shirts, hoodies, ballcaps, pins and stickers.

The 85th ski season will also feature a live band and ski boot dance on the Upper Lodge deck at the end of the season.

Announcements on the date can be found at WolfCreekSki.com.
