New book to hit Adventure Walk in Del Norte Town Park

DEL NORTE — The Del Norte Public Library is ready to set the stage for the coming holiday season and in partnership with the Rio Grande County Museum, has planned some family fun for the Adventure Walk this winter in the Del Norte Town Park.

Thanks to the help of Kathryn Trujillo through the Early Childhood Council of the San Luis valley, the Rio Grande County Museum and Del Norte Public Library will be sponsoring the book “Snowday,” a fun and interactive book for all ages. The book is the perfect fit for a snowy walk through the park with family for the holidays and comes with a wide variety of activities parents can do with children either at home or in the library.

The Adventure Walk was installed by the Del Norte Public Library in partnership with the Upper Rio Grande School District, Early Childhood Council of the San Luis Valley and other generous organizations and donors in 2022. Every few weeks, a new book is placed along the kiosks in the park that tell a story as families enjoy the river walk and feature different activities associated with the book.

In addition to the book along the Adventure Walk, families can also go to the library and check the book out to enjoy it more from home along with some activities. “It is a really great way to get outside, enjoy reading and activities while being with family and friends. It is a wonderful addition to the Del Norte community and has been very successful,” said Del Norte Public Library Director Susan Williams.

The museum and the library will also be partnering with High Valley Community Center on Dec. 1 to bring participating students to the museum for an afternoon of holiday fun. Students will come to the museum to hear a holiday tale read to them by Williams and then enjoy cookie decorating with museum staff.
