MONTE VISTA — The Monte Vista Police Department is investigating the death of a 45-year-old man who was found with a gunshot wound Saturday evening, June 20, at a local hotel.
Officers responded at about 7:37 p.m. to a report of a gunshot victim at the Rio Grande Hotel, 25 N. Broadway St., according to a department news release. Police entered a room to provide emergency aid, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Colorado Bureau of Investigation is assisting local police with the active investigation. Authorities said they do not believe there is an ongoing threat to the public, and investigators have not yet determined the cause or manner of death.
The man’s identity is being withheld until the Rio Grande County coroner notifies next of kin.
