DEL NORTE – Del Norte Town Mayor Shelly Burnett sat down with the Del Norte Prospector on Monday, March 17, to give an update on projects and plans for the Town of Del Norte.
As part of her goals set at the beginning of her term, Burnett will be working with the Prospector on a regular basis to ensure the community is kept up to date on everything Del Norte. Significant developments have been taking place within Del Norte and the town is pleased to announce the approval of a new app called e.gov. This application will enable the town to send important information and notices such as water outages in a specific area or block that will be affected by the outage.
“This will really help keep our community informed about town construction, and other situations that might affect us all. The app will send out a notice to any mobile device and we anticipate that this service will be operational within the next month,” said Burnett.
In addition to the town being able to send out important information through the new app, residents will have the capability to send emails directly to the relevant departments. For instance, in the event of a water leak, the notification will be sent to the supervisor of the public works department.
“Moreover, this application can be used to issue information to the community about events like Covered Wagon Days, Music in the Park and the dates and times of events like the coming health fair,” continued Burnett.
Burnett was also excited to talk about the coming downtown revitalization project that is expected to kick off construction on the south side of Grand Avenue.
“We will soon commence with construction on the second phase of both the downtown project and the 9th Street project. Work for the 9th Street project began today, March 17, and the downtown project is set to begin on April 7. We are confident that upon the completion of these projects, our town will be one we can all take pride in,” she said.
The downtown project will start on the western end of town and work from Alder Street east to Cherry Street.
“We acknowledge the inconvenience this may cause to the community, but we know how wonderful it will be when it is done,” Burnett said.
The town will also be initiating a sidewalk replacement program for existing sidewalks throughout town. This project will operate on a first-come, first-served basis due to the limited funding available. The objective of this project is to allow businesses and residents who have existing sidewalks to fill out an application for help with funding to fix the sidewalks. The town has funding available to help cover 50 percent of the total cost, with the remaining 50 percent to be paid by the property owner. Applications for this project will be available at Del Norte Town Hall in the near future. More details pertaining to this opportunity will be reported as soon as details have been confirmed.
The town will be hosting their annual cleanup day on April 25, so be sure to mark the calendars and begin spring cleaning.
“We appreciate your continued support and patience as we work towards improving our wonderful town,” Burnett said.
