ALAMOSA – Several high school track and field athletes are in a position to qualify for their respective state meets as they appear in the MaxPreps rankings as of Monday.
The Top 18 in each event in Classes 5A, 4A, 3A and 2A will qualify for state. In Class 1A, the Top 9 sprints and relays, the Top 12 distances, and the Top 10 field events will qualify.
Class 3A
Alamosa
The Mean Moose have 10 ranked individuals – three boys and seven girls.
For the boys teams, Brayden Moeller is third in the 100-meter dash in 10.98 seconds, Ethan Merrick is third in the 3,200-meter run in 9:51.36 and seventh in the 1,600 in 4:34.80, and Cody Williams is ninth in the 800 in 2:00.98.
Moeller is close to qualifying in the 200 as he is 19th in 22.90 – 0.2 seconds behind the final qualifier.
The Mean Moose are also ranked in two relays. They are 10th in the 4x800 in 8:33.68, and 12th in the 4x400 in 3:35.28.
For the girls, Elizabeth McQuitty is ranked in three events. She is third in the 3,200 in 11:13.67, fifth in the 1,600 in 5:17.07, and 10th in the 800 in 2:26.68.
Also ranked for the Alamosa girls are Timay Garcia who is eighth in the pole vault at 8-7, Kailynn King who is eighth in the 400 in 1:00.16, Brandi Garrison who is 11th in the discus at 109-3, Alicia Gonzalez who is 11th in the long jump at 16-3, Kaylee Gonzales-Moore who is 12th in the 200 in 26.80 and 15th in the 100 in 13.08, and Amelia Martinez who is 13th in the pole vault at 7-8.
The Alamosa girls are ranked in three relays. They are sixth in the 4x400 in 4:18.62, 11th in the 4x800 in 10:37.15, and 17th in the 4x100 in 52.43.
Centauri
Centauri had two ranked boys and three ranked girls.
The Falcons’ boys team is led by Troy Sowards who has the best height in the high jump at 6-10 and third in the long jump at 21-9. Ben Norton is 16th in the 300-meter intermediate hurdles in 42.50 seconds.
The Falcons are ranked two relays. They are 14th in the 4x200 in 1:32.72, and 17th in the 4x800 in 8:52.55,
For the Lady Falcons, Analynn Dwyer is tied for 14th in the high jump at 5-0, McKenzie Torres is 16th in the 800 in 2:29.42, and Mikasa Gilleland is 17th in the long jump at 15-10.
Centauri is ranked in two girls relays. It is seventh in the 4x800 in 10:29.88, and 11th in the 4x400 in 4:22.05.
Class 2A
Center
Center has two ranked athletes, both in discus competitions. Andree Meraz is eighth in the boys discus at 136-10 ½, and Presley Wilson is 13th in the girls discus at 98-0 ¼.
Del Norte
Del Norte has five athletes in the rankings.
For the Tiger boys team, Damon Ledford-Vigil is tied for ninth in the pole vault at 11-8, Caleb Cowett is ninth in the 800 in 2:03.74, and Corbin Horrocks is tied for 16th in the pole vault at 10-8.
The Tigers are ranked eighth in the 4x800 in 8:45.83, and 12th in the 4x400 in 3:40.68.
For the Lady Tigers, Frannie Edelen is 15th in the 1,600 in 5:42.34, and Baylie Laymon is tied for 16th in the high jump at 4-6.
Monte Vista
Monte Vista has two ranked athletes. Jeremiah McComas is ninth in the boys triple jump at 39-7, and Elena Baumgardner is 14th in the girls triple jump at 31-11.
The Pirates are 17th in the boys 4x200 in 1:36.85.
Sanford
Sanford is 17th in the girls 4x200 in 1:54.82.
Class 1A
Antonito
Antonito currently has no ranked athletes.
Creede
Creede has two ranked athletes.
For the boys team, Charlie Fairchild is seventh in the high jump at 5-9 ½ and tied for ninth in the long jump at 18-10 ½.
For the Lady Miners, Jasmine Laing is tied for fourth in the high jump at 5-2.
Moffat
Moffatt had no athletes that are in the rankings.
Sangre de Cristo
The Thunderbirds have three ranked athletes, all on the boys team.
Hayden Cleve is eighth in the pole vault at 9-8, Asher Allington is 10th in the pole vault at 8-4, and Brody Arteachevarria is 11th in the 800 in 2:13.21.
Sierra Grande
Sierra Grande has no ranked athletes.
