It is with great sorrow the we share the news that our beloved dad, grandfather, son and brother Joseph “Joey” Michael Salazar, 70 of Albuquerque, NM has passed away after a short and difficult battle with cancer.
Joey was born to his parents Modesto and Martha Salazar on December 26, 1954 in Shirley Massachusetts and passed away on December 27, 2024 at the Veterans Administration Hospice House in Albuquerque, NM.
Joey owned and took great pride in his company, Biomedical Equipment Services, LLC which he began 30 years ago. He had service areas all over the state of New Mexico and southern Colorado.
Joey was the second of “6 J’s” born to his parents. He was proud to be an Airforce brat and traveled the world with his family and continued to keep in contact with several friends that he made along the way. After graduating from Monte Vista High School in 1973, he worked for several years for his uncles and grandfathers’ construction company. He eventually joined the United States Air Force which took him to England where he met his life long friends. They all had a reunion in Albuquerque for the balloon Fiesta this past October before he realized his illness.
He had great pride and love for his son Dustin and his granddaughters; Andrea and Aaleyah who he spent so much time with and enjoyed every moment he spent with them. Joeys positive spirit, kindness, and professionalism just radiated from him and will be so missed. During his illness he shook hands with everyone that was involved in his case or not. When asked how he was feeling, he always answered “great and you?” Despite the pain he was feeling he tried to “shine” as bright as he was able.
Joey was preceded in death by his grandparents Bernie and Rachel Noriega of Monte Vista, Francisco and Eurmania Salazar of Center, CO. His father J. Modesto Salazar, his brothers Jerry and Jan Salazar and sisters Joya (Mike) Guttierrez and Jessica Salazar, and two nephews Mario and Marty Guttierrez.
He is survived by his mother Martha Salazar of Monte Vista, his son Dustin (Rene) Salazar of Jakarta Indonesia, his granddaughters Andrea and Aaliyah Salazar of Albuquerque. His sister Josette (Louie) Borrego of Espanola, NM, his best and close friend Danny (TU) Williams of Albuquerque, many aunts, uncles, and cousins, and the many friends he met along his life’s colorful journey.
One of his favorite phrases was to “enjoy the now moments”, to be happy and enjoy your day, be kind to one another, “I love you.”
We will miss you and our other “J’s” dad and the guys all of our days. We love you so very much. Momma and Josette.
A recitation of the rosary will be held at 10:30 with a memorial mass at 11:00 on Saturday, January 25, 2025 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Monte Vista, CO. Burial will follow the mass at Homelake Veterans Cemetery.
