‘Hailing Cesar,’ at Adams State

ALAMOSA — On March 31, in honor of Cesar Chavez Day, Adams State University hosted a lecture by Eduardo Chavez, the grandson of civil rights activist Cesar Chavez.

Eduardo showed the first 15 minutes of his film, "Hailing Cesar," a documentary about his journey to understand the legacy and struggle of his grandfather, Cesar Chavez.

The filmmaker grew up in the affluent community of Hillsborough, Calif., where his father, Fernando, was a lawyer. The younger Chavez had difficulty connecting with his grandfather's life. His personal struggle to understand and connect with his grandfather led him to explore the places and people of his grandfather and even work in fields picking grapes, just like his father and grandfather did.
