ALAMOSA – For the third straight year, Damnera Ranch from the Lamar area has won the Alamosa Round-Up ranch rodeo.
Damnera, which consists of Josh Weimer, Tyler Hainer, Wyatt Wollert, Dakota Canfield and Merisa Cominiello, won with 16 points.
Damnera won two events. It started the ranch rodeo by winning the ranch branding competition in 31.69 seconds. Later in the day, Canfield won the ranch bronc riding with an 83-point ride on John.
In other events, Damnera Ranch was second in stray gather/doctor and trailer loading in 1:22.72. It was third in wild cow milking in 52.56 seconds.
Skipper Cattle Company from Sanford finished in second place with 12 points. The team of Colby Crowther, Miles Caldon, Dustin Faucette, James Paine and Camdon Larson were second in stray gather/doctor and trailer loading in 1:13.85. They also took second in branding in 40.60 seconds, and second in wild cow milking in 37.40.
Skipper Cattle Company, however, did not record a score in ranch bronc riding.
Desert Outlaws, with cowboys from both Alamosa and Las Animas, won wild cow milking in 37.28 seconds. The team of Cutter Nichols, Brander Nichols, Jared Sinclair, Riley Honeycutt and Scott Honeycutt were fifth in branding in 1:34.87 and fifth in stray gather/doctor and trailer loading in 2:04.75.
Brander Nichols did record a score of 78 points in ranch bronc riding on Smiley Joe for a second-place finish.
Johnson Ranch from Monte Vista, consisting of Kaysen Johnson, Sean Doyle, Grant Koenig, Haydn Huffaker and Braxton Register, was third in branding in 52.59, fourth in stray gather/doctor and trailer loading in 1:37.75, and fifth in wild cow milking in 1:57.90. It did not record a score in ranch bronc riding.
The final team, Huffaker Ranches from Manassa, consisting of Tate Huffaker, Monte Huffaker, Cody Huffaker, Haydn Huffaker and Zane Huffaker, won stray gather/doctor and trailer loading in 1:08.50, and they were fourth in branding in 56.62, and fourth in wild cow milking in 55.78.
Huffaker Ranches also recorded no score in ranch bronc riding.
The Alamosa Round-Up concludes this weekend. On Thursday, it will be mutton bustin’ and the local barrel race beginning at 6:30 p.m. The PRCA rodeo begins Friday with the slack at 10 a.m. and the first performance at 6:30 p.m. Cowboy church is Saturday at 9 a.m., and the second performance is at 6:30 p.m., followed by a Chancey Williams Concert at approximately 8:45 p.m.
