Both Del Norte cross country teams qualify for state

ALAMOSA – The Del Norte High School cross country program had both of its teams qualify for their respective Class 2A State Meets as they both finished in the Top 4 at the Class 2A Region 3 Meet Friday at Jack-a-lope Acres in Ignacio.

Del Norte

The Tigers were second in the boys race with 52 points, finishing behind Crested Butte with 43.

Leading the way for Del Norte was Mads Kreutzer who finished second in 18:13.00. Cruz Matta was fourth in 18:41.00, Jax Lester was 12th in 19:05.00, Landon Crowder was 26th In 20:21.00, Jose Pinon was 28th in 20:40.00, Zach Daniel was 34th in 21:02.00, and Corbin Horrocks was 41st in 21:34.00.

Also running for the Del Norte boys was Justin Ast who was 60th in 25:16.00.

The Del Norte girls also placed second place with 47 points. They finished behind Ridgway with 20 points.

Leading the Tigers was Scarlett Maxwell who was seventh in 21:23.00. Indie Howe was 12th in 22:42.00, Faith Crowder was 13th in 22:48.00, Brianna Kaufman Brigham was 23rd in 25:00.00, and Ella Cowett was 25th in 25:45.00.

Antonito

The Trojans did not record a score in either race.

The boys team was led by Dean Garcia who was 32nd in 21:00.00. Jeremiah Gray was 61st in 25:27.00, Anthony Llanez was 66th in 27:29.00, and Steven Velasquez was 69th in 29:33.00.

Leading the Trojan girls was Faith Medellin who was 22nd in 24:42.00. Evolet Garcia was 39th in 36:39.00, Anali Garcia was 40th in 38:52.00, and Jada Gutierrez was 41st in 42:27.00.

Centennial

The Rams were fifth in the boys race with 145 points

They were led by Noah Bosch who finished 51st in 23:57.00, followed by Josiah Rael who was 53rd in 24:08.00, Andres Payne who was 55th in 24:38.00, Alazay Sanchez who was 56th in 24:40.00, Jeremy Rael who was 59th in 25:10.00, and Miguel Salcido who was 65th in 26:18.00.

Centennial did not enter a girls team.

Center

The Vikings were not in the scoring column in either meet.

The boys team was led by Dahir Ornelas who was 45th in 22:50.00. Kevin Tomas-Lopez was 48th in 23:36.00, and Isaac Garcia was 64th in 26:12.00.

Leading the girls was Lavine Casas Hernandez who was 38th in 33:14.00.

Monte Vista

The Pirates also did not record a team score in either race.

Shae Romero led the girls team as she placed third in 20:31.00 and qualified to run at the state meet. Anahi Murietta was 24th in 25:34.00.

Leading the boys was Matheiu Dean who was 40th in 21:22.00. Haven Heredia was 44th in 22:45.00, and Logan Hernandez was 68th in 29:15.00.

Sargent

The Famers did not have a team score in either race.

For the boys, Lars Witzke was 62nd in 25:38.00.

The Farmer girls team was led by Madeline Mitchell who was 11th in 22:33.00 and she will also compete at state. Sydney Curtis was 20th in 24:12.00

Sierra Grande

The Panthers also did not record a team score for the boys race.

The boys were led by Jacob Portillo who was 50th in 23:52.00. Daniel Rodriguez was 58th in 24:59.00, Ashton Sampson was 67th in 27:29.00, and Eugene Alaart was 70th in 35:53.00.

Sierra Grande did not enter a girls team.

State is Saturday

The CHSAA state cross country meet will be Saturday at the Norris Penrose Event Center in Colorado Springs.

The Class 2A girls race is at 9:40 a.m., and the 2A boys will run at 11 a.m.

Crested Butte 43, Del Norte 52, Dolores 62, Ignacio 64, Centennial 145.

Girls team scores

Ridgway 210, Del Norte 47, Crested Butte 57.
