Alamosa girls winning streak at three games

ALAMOSA – The seventh-ranked Alamosa High School girls basketball team pushed its current winning streak to three games as it defeated Monte Vista 42-22 Tuesday at the AHS gym.

Jaelin Garcia gave the Lady Mean Moose the early lead with a layup, but Angeleigha Mora hit a 3-point basket to give the Lady Pirates a 3-2 edge.

That would be Monte Vista’s only lead of the game. Audrina Knorr srove for a layup and Alexia Montoya made a three. Morgan Ortega and Knorr both split at the free throw line to give Alamosa a 9-3 advantage.

Cindy Cereceres-Olivera made a layup and added a free throw. However, Knorr drained a trey and Arreli Felix made two free throws. Allessah Archuleta knocked down a jumper to end the first quarter with the Lady Mean Moose leading 14-8.

Heysenny Beltran scored the first points of the second quarter. Kadie Hawkins scored Alamosa’s first points of the quarter, followed by a Garcia jumper and the Lady Mean Moose had an 18-10 lead.

Mora ended the run, but Knorr and Aubrey Rothermich both made layups, and Garcia made one of two from the line to push the lead to 23-12.

Archuleta’s 3-pointer beat the clock, but Alaonsa led 23-15 at halftime.

Ortega opened the second half with a layup, but Daylin Castro split at the line. Rothermich also made one of two free throws, however, Mora hit a jumper.

Hawkins and Rothermich both made layups, and Felix split at the line to give the Lady Mean Moose a 31-18 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Rothermich scored the first seven points of the fourth quarter. Archuleta ended the rally with a 3-pointer and also made a free throw, but Felix and Garcia both made layups to wrap up the scoring.

Knorr and Rothermich both scored 10 points to lead Alamosa. Mora was the Lady Pirates’ top scorer with seven points.

Alamosa (12-5, 4-2) hosted Bayfield on Friday. Today, it will travel to face Montezuma-Cortez with game time scheduled for 12:30 p.m.

Monte Vista (9-6, 3-3) lost to Sanford 44-18 at home on Thursday and it played at Pagosa Springs on Friday. Its next game will be a rematch with the Lady Mean Moose Tuesday at Monte Vista. Tip-off is at 6 p.m.
