ALAMOSA – The top-ranked Alamosa High School boys wrestling team wrapped up the Intermountain League East Division championship on Thursday as it defeated Monte Vista 68-11 at the AHS gym.

“It was a good dual,” said Alamosa coach Rusty Johnson. “Monte’s a well-coached team and their wrestlers wrestled hard. We just won the key match-ups.”

The dual opened with two wrestlers at the top of the 106-pound weight divisions in their respective classifications as Alamosa’s Jeremiah DeLaCerda (Class 3A) faced Mathieu Dean (Class 2A). Dean drew first blood with a takedown, but DeLaCerda reversed the hold to cut the lead to 3-2 at the end of the first period. DeLaCerda recorded a takedown in the second period and went on to pin Dean in 3:57.

“We had two Number 1’s going head-to head and Dean’s a tough, tough kid and he’s only a sophomore. I would say look out for him. With any luck, they’ll both win state and we’ll have two state champions from the valley in the same weight. That would be great.”

The Pirates tied the score at 6-6 as Matthew Rodriguez pinned Alex Montoya in 3:36 at 113.

The Mean Moose won the next two matches by fall. It took Anthony Meder 47 seconds to pin Stetson Romero at 120 pounds, while Jonathan Olsen pinned Jaxson Owsley in 3:01 at 126.

Monte Vista has one point deducted for unsportsmanlike conduct and Alamosa led 18-5.

Pablito Rodriguez took a forfeit win ay 132 pounds.

The Mean Moose won the next two matches as the Martinez brothers – Uriah and Daniel – both won by fall.

Uriah pinned Jon Enderle in 1:15 at 138, and Daniel pinned Kyler Lake in 1:04 at 144.

The Mean Moose won the next three matches by forfeit with Tony Griego (150), Caleb Quintana (157) and Ryan Cordvoa (165) all having their hands raised.

Alexis Chavez then pinned Sam Bowen in 2:10 at 175.

The Pirates’ last win of the meet was at 190 pounds as Mason Mondragon won by forfeit.

At 215 pounds, Max Dokson pinned Lucas Pino in 2:20, and Aaron Jordan scored a 1-0 decision over Jose Zamarripa at heavyweight.

Alamosa will next host Pagosa Springs for the Intermountain League championship this coming Thursday.
