Steve White was born Jan. 15, 1944, in Ohio City, Colo., to Frank and Mary White. Steve graduated from Center High School in Center, Colo., in 1963 where he was active in sports and was a State Wrestling Champion. 

She died in her home with her husband by her side.  Preceded by her mother and father Warren and Judy Varner, brother Roy Varner and mother-in-law Katherine Hibbs.  She first married in Monte Vista to Gerald Bryning. They raised 4 children.  She remarried Tom Hibbs in La Junta in 1971, and they added one more child to the family.  

It is with heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Lucy Theresa Valdez, a beloved mother, nana, sister, aunt, and friend. Lucy left this world peacefully on April 18, 2025, her favorite holiday, Good Friday. She was born on March 22, 1950, in Monero, N.M., to Joe B. And Elbiria Salazar.  

Bob Phillips, 70, of Clinton, Tenn., peacefully passed away on April 19, 2025, after a prolonged battle with cancer. He was born on Aug. 24, 1954, to Shirley and Robert Phillips. 

On Sunday March 23rd, 2025, James (Jim) Pomeroy passed from this world at the age of 87. Surrounded by a loving family, he passed away quietly and without pain at Hope West Hospice in Grand Junction. 

Jeffrey Carpenter left this world to seek adventures in the next on March 27, 2025. He was a simple kind of man, so we’ll keep this simple too — just like he would have wanted.  

Dwight Alan Montano, a man of loving spirit and boundless enthusiasm, passed away peacefully on March 1, 2025, in Lake Elsinore, Calif. Born on March 10, 1963, in the beautiful state of Colorado, Dwight's journey through life was marked by his unwavering kindness, his infectious sense of humor, and his remarkable intellect. 

John A. Hurt passed away the evening of Saturday, Feb. 1, 2025, at Collier Hospice Center in Wheat Ridge, Colo. He was a native Coloradan, born in Monte Vista and spent the majority of his youth in the middle of the San Luis Valley, where his grandfather had provided land to found the small town of Center.

Donna was born Aug. 31, 1937, in Morgantown, Ky., to Fred Ragland and Leona Pearl Wyley, the third of three girls. She came with her mother and sisters to Colorado in 1939, first to Monte Vista and then to Wagon Wheel Gap, where her mother’s extended family was building Cottonwood Cove resort. She attended Creede schools and then moved with her mother to Truth or Consequences, N.M., in 1952, where she attended Hot Springs High School. 

Alfred Laverne Pierce, affectionately known as Al to his friends and family, passed away peacefully on March 10, 2025, in South Fork, Colo. Born on Jan. 9, 1935, in Cottonwood Falls, Kan., Al's journey through life was marked by his friendly demeanor, captivating presence, and a lifetime of dedicated service to his community. 

Joyce G. Pacheco, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully in Brighton, Colo., after a courageous battle with cancer. She was 84 years old. 

Anna Reid Pubins, born on April 21, 2024, brought immeasurable joy and love to all who knew her before she was called home on February 12, 2025, after a brief illness. Though her time on this earth was brief, Anna’s life was filled with warmth, laughter, and a radiant light that will forever shine in the hearts of her family. 

Alex Juan Martinez, a man known for his loving heart and unwavering passion for life, departed this world on Feb. 16, 2025, in Center, Colo., with his loving family by his side. Leaving a legacy of warmth and wisdom. Born on Sept. 26, 1945, in Pueblo, Colo., Alex's life was a testament to his intelligent mind and his dedication to his faith and family. 

Charlotte June Sheely slipped the surly bonds of earth and touched the face of God on Feb. 12, 2025. 

Sharon Edmiston Seago (born April 24, 1942, Perrytown, Texas) departed this earth in the early hours of Friday, Jan. 24, 2025, in Colorado Springs.

Charlene Elizabeth Ameel, 78, beloved and deep-rooted member of the Creede community, passed away peacefully at home on Jan. 28, 2025. Her multi-faceted involvement and love have been vital to Creede’s ultimate well-being and have stretched across generations. Her passing leaves a void that will be hard to fill. 

Kirk Rhoton Thompson, 78, of South Fork, Colo., passed away peacefully on Jan. 21, 2025, in Highland Village, Texas. Kirk was born in Arizona on April 1, 1946, to June Rhoton Thompson and JW (Dub) Thompson.  

Mary Louise "Mary Lou" Bassett, age 84, passed away peacefully on Nov. 17, 2024, at home in Cibolo, Texas, surrounded by her family. 

Mary Patricia Karr, 76, of Creede, Colo., passed away in peace on Dec. 16, 2024.  Mary was born April 27, 1948, in Milwaukee, Wis., the daughter of John E. Crowley, Sr. and Delores "Pat" Patricia Conley. 

Robin Medina passed away Dec. 14, 2024, at the age of 58, at Parkview Medical Center, in Pueblo, Colo.
