RGNF to host two temporary jobs open houses

Local candidates will learn the ins and outs of the federal hiring process

DEL NORTE — The Rio Grande National Forest (RGNF) will soon be hiring up to 35 positions for temporary, or seasonal, jobs along with other units across the Rocky Mountain Region. In an effort to attract more local candidates, the forest will host two informal open-house events for community members to learn about and ask questions about the application process. Here are the details:

  • Tuesday, Oct. 17, at the Carnegie Public Library — 120 Jefferson St., Monte Vista, from 5 to 7 p.m.
  • Thursday, Oct. 19, at the Divide Ranger District office — 13308 West US Highway 160, Del Norte from 5 to 7 p.m.

There will be ample opportunity for interested individuals to learn how to create an account on USAJobs, build a federal resume, submit applications for positions, and meet local hiring managers. These open house events are “come when you can” and will have periodic presentations. You do not need to be present the entire time.

The 35 positions on the forest will be part of next summer’s workforce. The application period for all positions will be open from Oct. 26 to Nov. 8, 2023. The positions are in fire, trails, timber, administration, recreation, fisheries, range, archaeology, and heavy equipment. Visit the RGNF employment page at www.fs.usda.gov/main/riogrande/about-forest/jobs, for instructions on how to apply and who to contact for more information.

“The mission of the Forest Service is to sustain the health, diversity, and productivity of the nation’s forests and grasslands to meet the needs of present and future generations. You can be a part of that mission. Temporary positions with the USDA Forest Service are a great way to gain valuable experience, work outdoors, and get exposure to different careers. The application period is coming soon, so plan now to be prepared to apply,” RGNF officials stated.
