Loretta Irene Ehardt

South Fork resident Loretta Irene Ehardt, 80, passed away on Dec. 10, 2022. She was born on Feb. 28, 1942, in Biloxi, Miss., to Harry Crews and Ida Osborne. Loretta was raised by her grandmother in Colorado Springs and graduated from William Palmer High School in 1960.

Following graduation, she went on to attend Colorado University, where she got her degree in teaching. She spent many years teaching in Colorado and Arizona. 

She married Larry Ehardt in 1982 and with him, she helped operate Moon Valley Resort in South Fork. She was involved in every aspect of the business from running the day to day at the resort to going with Larry on his outfitting trips as the camp cook, often sleeping in tents in the San Juan and Sangre de Cristo Mountain ranges.

Loretta was a member of the New Hope Church and was very instrumental in starting many quilting groups in Colorado and Arizona. She had a passion for quilting and loved the opportunity with those she met.

She is survived by her husband Larry Ehardt, her step-son Darrin Ehardt, her step-daughter Kari Ehardt, her step-granddaughter Katy, her sisters, Linda Crews and Kathy (Tom) Brogard as well as her niece Shannon Brogard, her nephew Sean Brogard and her adopted family, Lori (Aaron) Laske and Shawna (Steve) Martinelli.

Loretta was preceded in death by her mother and father.
