Concealed handgun firearm training Oct. 11-12

DEL NORTE — The Rio Grande County Sheriff’s Office will hold a concealed handgun firearm training course on Oct. 11 and 12.   This will be an eight-hour course and will satisfy requirements for a concealed firearm carry permit upon successful completion.
There is no charge for the course.
The course will begin at 5 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 11 and last until 9 p.m. at the South Fork Community Building. This session will be classroom study. Bring a firearm for inspection. NO ammunition please. There will be four hours of training in the use and proficiency of a firearm.
Saturday, April 12, the group will meet at the Rio Grande Sportsman Club between Monte Vista and Del Norte on Highway 160 and Rifle Range Road at 8 a.m. for live-fire proficiency.
Materials needed include: A modern centerfire or rimfire handgun will be acceptable upon completion of a safety and function check by on-site armors; a suitable hip holster will be required for training (no cross draw or shoulder holsters); 15 rounds of factory practice ammunition; hearing protection and eye protection will be required; a ball cap for sun protection and proper clothing are recommended.
