DEL NORTE — Lynn Drake of the Upper Rio Grande Animal Society URGAS has been visiting Valley municipalities to ask for their support in a mill levy that will go to the people in the next election. The society has developed a plan that they believe will help them end the need to go to the towns and ask for money to operate the shelter.
Since a major overhaul of the management at URGAS, they have had a 92 percent walk out rate for their dogs. They have adopted out almost all of the 206 dogs they have taken in since Jan 1.
Mill levy cost
The mill levy that would allow them to continue their current services and to possibly even add on to their shelter would cost the average home owner $7.96 a year. Drake pointed out that the amount would equal less than the cost of a pizza.
The board agreed to sign an intergovernmental agreement that would make the town a participant in the advisory board for the mill levy funds if voters pass the levy. The advisory board would be made up of local municipalities to oversee use of the funds.

Development Council
Suzanne Benton of the Del Norte EDC spoke to the board about trying to get the wireless internet in Del Norte to where people are able to reliably use the service.
For now, those who are able to use the Wi-Fi are not being charged for the service, but that may change in the future and it would become a subscription type of service.
