CREEDE — The Mineral County Commissioners hosted an informational meeting on the controversial Village at Wolf Creek and its proposed land exchange plans Tuesday, Oct. 6 at the Creede Community Center.
About 30 people were in attendance at the two-hour public meeting, which included a presentation from Clint Jones, a representative for Red McCombs of Village developers Leavell-McCombs Joint Ventures.
Commissioner Karl Kolisch opened up the meeting, followed by Jones giving an overview of the the 492-unit development’s options as it moves forward and then answering questions from the crowd.
The Village’s recently-announced land exchange plans include swapping 207 acres with the Rio Grande National Forest, getting the development off of delicate, environmentally-sensitive wetland area to a less-visible location closer to U.S. Highway 160. The exchange is an alternative to the original Village plans, which have already been approved by Mineral County but still need to complete the environment assessment process.
For the last half of the meeting, Jones answered about a dozen written questions and read as many comments from the audience about everything from the legal processes the Village must go through for the exchange to the development’s effect on local communities such as Creede and whether it is an economically-viable project as the country heads through a recession.
