DNEDC accepting grant applications

DEL NORTE — With its spacious skies and mountain backdrop, the town of Del Norte doesn’t have to try very hard to keep itself looking picturesque, but that doesn’t mean the Del Norte Economic Devel-opment Council (DNEDC) is standing pat.
With its Downtown Beautification Grant Program, the DNEDC is looking to make further im-provements to Del Norte’s business district by allocating grants to businesses and non-profits located along or within one block of Highways 160 and 112.
“We’re pleased to be able to offer the grant,” said Del Norte Federal Bank President and DNEDC board member Mike Hurst. With the program, the DNEDC, which was given $3,000 from the town of Del Norte to beautify its downtown, will be awarding three grants of up to $1,000. Each requires an equal cash match from the applicant.
In addition, grants will only be given for exterior beautification projects and requests for signage are not eligible. Outside of those restrictions, however, the program is pretty open. “We’ll consider painting jobs, sidewalks, awnings, bricks and mortar,” said Hurst.
Applications for the beautification grants, due June 30, are available at all Del Norte banks and at the Chamber of Commerce. Work must begin within 90 days of approval and all beautification projects must be completed by December 1.
“We commend the town for making the funds available,” said Hurst.
