New PUD found in backwoods

On a walk in the woods recently, Barbara Graham and some young companions came upon a beaver city planned unit development (PUD) in which the rapidly working rodents had gnawed their way through a large tree. One of the young people was willing to stick a hand through into the center of the log for an interesting effect.

Keeping Dream Alive honors three

DEL NORTE -- Rio Grande Hospital will be holding their fourth annual fundraising dinner and auction, "Keeping the Dream Alive," from 5:30-7 p.m. Aug. 14 at the Del Norte Schools bus garage.
The dinner will be donated once again this year by Ron Martinez of Mountain View Restaurant and tickets are on sale at Rio Grande Hospital and Clinics.

Val Alto Study Club continues tradition

DEL NORTE -- The Val Alto Study Club of Del Norte will once again present their Covered Wagon Days Pancake Breakfast at 7 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 7.
 The club has been in existence for 53 years and some of the original members still create this fun event for families and friends.

Thirty Mile Resort: the USFS side of it

Earlier this month, the Del Norte Prospector, South Fork Tines and Center Post Dispatch carried an article titled, "Woman battles to save primitive resort" (July 1).
The story concerned Ms. Charlotte Trego, 30-Mile Resort and the Rio Grande National Forest.
Unfortunately, the reporter never contacted the Forest Service and the story contained many inaccuracies.

Ute Creek Trails sloughed off

CREEDE -- A section of the popular Ute Creek Trail (Forest Trail 819) has sloughed and is now impassable to livestock.
The damage has occurred about three miles from the trailhead on a narrow, steep section of the trail.
Ute Creek Trail accesses the Weminuche Wilderness from the west end of the Rio Grande Reservoir.
